Finding Your Inner Peace

Have you ever had that unsettling feeling like there is something not quite right but you don’t know what it is….? We often use the phrase “I can’t put my finger on it”…..

I was fortunate enough to visit the Lulumahu Falls in Hawaii last year. I remember so vividly the adventure of getting there – a hike, a trek through a dense bamboo forest, up concrete steps in the middle of nowhere, through a stream, across giant rocks, and alas an amazing 50ft plus waterfall!

On finally getting there and taking in its impressive height and tranquillity, I felt a sense of inner peace that is difficult to put into words.

On the realisation that I couldn’t return to Hawaii every time I craved that inner peace (I wish I could!), I devised other ways to achieve it simply by Simplifying things around me.

Too often as human beings, we complicate matters that can be kept simple leading to undue stress and quite often, adverse health issues. We overanalyse, over process and overthink issues….Even things like “To do lists” and goals are sometimes too complex leaving us with a feeling of under achievement and ultimately no inner peace. Keep it simple!

Through my experiences in life so far, I see there is so much anger and resentment in the world today – in our government, our youths and even in our disparate religious beliefs.  Accepting  the ways and beliefs of other people around you will bring a level an inner peace that can only impact you positively.  Letting  go anger ultimately leads to Forgiveness  – another way to attain inner peace. Learn to forgive others as well as yourself.

One thing I have learnt to do well is living life doing what I Enjoy most. What do you enjoy most?  – is it  working, travelling, spending time with family, partying….whatever it is, do more of those things you enjoy without seeking validation from others. Doing what you enjoy provides an inner satisfaction and peace. Do less of the things that bring you stress and anxiety.

All of that said, it would be naïve not to admit that stressful days are inevitable, we all have them, those days that seem to extend beyond the given 24hours!

On such days this inner peace will be pivotal in helping you make good decisions and getting things done – more effectively and smarter.

“Possession of material riches, without inner peace, is like dying of thirst while bathing in a lake.”  – Marcus Aurelius
